Laser Printer Tips Climate Control Loading the Printer Acclimate wristbands and labels in the room in which they are to be used for at least 24 hours before running through printer. For best printer performance the room temperature should be 65°- 75° F and 50% ± 5% RH. Store wristbands on a flat surface, and keep sealed in the protective bag until ready for use. Dealers should follow these same guide lines when printing sample sheets. Loading the Printer Remove one to two days worth of wristbands from protective bag, and fan the sheets to loosen the stack. Load in printer tray according to printer manual. Caution: do not overload tray, fill no more than 2/3 full. Proper printer settings are a must, set to “Label, Tough Paper, Heavy, or Vinyl Label” depending on make and model. Printer Condition Printer must be in good working order and regularly maintained. Only use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) toner cartridges. After market cartridges cause toner adhesion, and print quality problems. Choosing A Laser Printer Which Printer Wristbands and labels sheets will not necessarily work in all printers. Low end printers that are not designed for heavier stocks do not generate enough heat to fuse the toner to the stock, nor do they pull and feed the heavier sheets well. Qualifying A Printer We recommend testing at least 250 sheets in small lots of 10 sheets over 48 hours. Check for jams, skewing, toner adhesion and print quality. What’s an acceptable printer? One that can provide solid toner adhesion, no more that one jam per 1,000 sheets, no more than 1mm of skew from left to right of the sheet, and sharp clean printing.
