8th Grade Curriculum Quarter 1: Pre-Colonial America Colonization Rebellion Revolution/ Hamilton Quarter 2: Building a New Nation Westward Expansion Conflicts and Compromises The Civil War Quarter 3: Reconstruction Jim Crow South Industrial Revolution World War I The Roaring 20s Quarter 4: Great Depression World War II Cold War Civil Rights Movement Modern America

Daily Class: Daily Agenda Daily Warm Up Activities: Guided Notes, Group Work, Readings, Videos with notes, Discussions/Circles Materials: Interactive Notebook and Work Folder Purpose: to learn understand the SS Curriculum and to create active community members and citizens

Social Studies Smart Lunch Current Events: CNN Student News Summary Personal Connections or Reflections Counts as a Homework Grade in SS

Homework (CE and Warm Ups) 10%- Students will be given very limited HW assignments. Therefore the assignments that fall in this category are: Current Events- Completed during Mrs. Kreitman’s Smart Lunch Warm Ups- We will complete daily warm ups and you will turn these end on Fridays Minor (Class Assignments) 25%- Interactive Notebook Activities: twice a quarter I will check your notebook for certain activities that you completed in class. I will not pre-announce which assignments will be graded so it is important to complete all of the activities to the best of your ability! In class activities: Any worksheets, minor projects that are turned in Minor (Quizzes) 30%- You will typically have a quiz PER UNIT (see yearly overview to see the Units) Quarter 1: 4 Units = 4 Quizzes Major (Tests/Projects) 35%- Tests: Multiple Choice/Matching/Fill in the Blank, Constructed Response At least 2 a Quarter Projects- at least 1 a Quarter
