Advanced Content Classes The curriculum and instructional strategies for this course are differentiated in content, pacing, process skills emphasis, and expectation of student outcomes from the typical 8th grade Georgia Studies course. Curriculum content has been designed for mastery and extension of state and district content standards. The course is appropriate for students who have high achievement and interest in social studies. The district has established criteria and guidelines that identify students who will be successful with the advanced curriculum. Students are placed in this class according to specified indicators of demonstrated exceptional ability and motivation. Students must meet continuation criteria to remain in the class, and these criteria require that the students maintain an 80 percent or better average in the class. If this is not the case, the student is placed on probation, and he or she may be removed from the class if the average does not improve. The probation continues for the rest of the year. Your signature below indicates that you have read and understand the continuation criteria.

Homework and make up work: See Student Agenda: HOMEWORK POLICY: Homework is due according to assigned days and will not be accepted after due date. Please see the student agenda for Hightower Trail MS policy clarifications. For classwork and projects late work will be penalized ten points per day, unless with prior teacher approval.   MAKE-UP POLICY: It is the student’s responsibility to obtain, complete and turn in work missed due to absence. For excused absences, assignments should be made up within the same number of days as the student was absent. Missed assignments may be obtained by checking blog. Additional information regarding makeup work may obtained from me when a student returns to school. Social Studies make up and help session is Wednesday mornings.
