Happening This Week… Grammar Math This week we will finish with our math unit. On Monday the students will learn how to compare fractions. They will learn using the following methods: draw a picture, compare to a benchmark fraction, butterfly method, and finding the least common multiple. Tuesday the students will play a comparing fractions game. Wednesday we will go over the study guide that is due and we will play a review jeopardy in class. The test has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday to allow for a day in class to review. Friday the students will take a pretest for the new unit. Reading This week the students will continue with our Green Book unit from William and Mary. Students will be responsible for reading chapter 5 from the book and answering their comprehension questions in their journal. In class students will discuss their reading in book clubs, create questions for our next paideia seminar on Monday, complete a literature web on chapter 5, and write a persuasive paragraph using the hamburger model graphic organizer. Students will have a quiz on Chapter 5 on Monday, March 14. They will get to use their journal and book. Writing Students are working on nonfiction writing and also persuasive writing. In class we will discuss what it means to take something for granted. In The Green Book and our real aloud book Out of My Mind both characters take things for granted. Students will write a persuasive paragraph about which 2 everyday abilities would be more important to have: seeing, talking, walking.
