Learning Goals 4. I will be able to compare and evaluate contemporary leadership theories 5. I will be able to identify and compare different leadership styles 6. I will be able to use current world examples of how the leadership styles are being used

Contemporary Leadership Theories for TOMORROW YAY! Presentation Again!! – Not for marks, calm down. Everyone must present. 10 minutes – I cut you off at TWELVE MIN. You will have slides for your presentation. Most of the information you get will come from the text book pg. 341- 348 1 Slide will have 5 bullet points summarizing your Theory 1 Slide will have an example of practical use in management (real or not) of your theory One comprehension activity to ‘test’ the classes understanding. 1 Slide will explain the strengths and weaknesses of your theory.

Classic Leadership Styles Autocratic – emphasizes tasks over people. They keep all of the authority and information to themselves. “I’m in charge, do what I say” Laissez-faire – shows little concern for the task, letting the group make decisions and acts with a “do your best and don’t bother me” attitude. Democratic –encourages participation with an emphasis on both task accomplishment and development of people.

1. Which style do you think is best? Why? 2. List 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages of each. 3. Create a business example of a manager/leader using each style. 4. Share your answers with a partner.

LG 6 – real world examples Find a real leader either in the past or present that demonstrates each of the leadership styles Why makes you think they are using that particular style? Are they using it successfully? Why?
