M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI Introduction The scope of the tender is the design, procurement, fabrication and installation of the proximity cryogenics for the following: SBN-FD (NP-01), ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (NP-02), SBND (NP-03), ProtoDUNE Single Phase (NP-04). The tender is issued with a Functional Specification (we do not supply pipe/valve sizes, etc.). The Internal Cryogenics is NOT part of this tender for any project. The warm piping is NOT part of this tender for any project. 14/04/2016 M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI

M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI Main Functions The systems shall: allow purging and flushing of the cryostats (with gas from a storage tanks, not included in this tender), allow the cool-down of the cryostats, allow the filling of the cryostats, provide an argon gas boil off recovery and re-liquefaction system for normal operation purposes, allow re-circulation and purification of the liquid argon inventory to achieve the needed LAr purity to meet the scientific requirements (Less than 10 days/volume change based on previous experience, corresponding to an impurity level of less than 100ppt oxygen equivalent ). allow emptying of the cryostats 14/04/2016 M. Regulatory Requirements Pressure equipment shall comply with European Directives 2014/68/EU replacing 97/23/EC, where applicable. The supply shall also comply with the machinery directive 2006/42/EC. Design codes and standards as per Annex 1 of the specification EN 13445 for unfired pressure vessels EN 13480 for metallic piping When working at the CERN site, the supply shall comply with CERN safety rules, When working at the Fermilab site, the supply shall comply with Fermilab safety rules (see comming slides). FOR THE WHOLE PROJECT 08/06/2016 M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI

M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI Deliverables Hardware deliverables (see the Annex 2 of the specification): Documents deliverables as per specification table 14 and 15 *Installation at Fermilab is optional for the NP01 and NP03 Transfer Lines Valve Boxes N2 Ar NP01* 23 9 15 NP02 4 NP03* 3 22 10 NP04 17 Total 33 63 43 08/06/2016 M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI

Working Environment at Fermilab How do workers access Fermilab? On the day of arrival, Fermilab ID badges will be issued, and necessary training classes will be held the process generally takes ~ half-day or less and the time needed depends on the training classes determined to be necessary A driver’s license or passport is adequate for the initial entry CERN will work with the contractor to provide Fermilab with a list of people needing IDs in advance of arrival Fermilab will assist in preparing the necessary paperwork in advance so that the IDs are ready to be issued ID’s will be valid for the duration of the work as needed, training classes will be set up specifically for the contractor’s workers, and will be tailored to the job-site requirements CERN will work with the contractor to provide Fermilab with sufficient descriptions of the jobs/work to be performed so that the necessary training is properly determined 08/06/2016 M. Chalifour - TE/CRG-CI

What are the basic safety rules? Fermilab has an extensive Safety Manual, and everyone working on-site is required to follow its guidelines links are provided in the text of the Tender the Training provided on the first day is intended (in part) to inform all workers of the safety rules applicable to their work area and their planned work tasks responses to emergencies (fire, tornado) are part of the training Fermilab will provide a Task Manager, whose job is to observe the day-to-day work at the job-site, ensure compliance with Fermilab safety guidelines, and assist the contractor with any workplace issues and needs which arise The contractor will be asked to provide a written safety plan similar to what is required for work at CERN Fermilab will work with CERN and the contractor to identify any contractual items which may arise (e.g. insurance)

The Installation sites there are two installation sites – Far Detector Building and Near Detector Building, separated by less than 1km both sites in turn are less than 1km from the High Rise, Fermilab’s main office building and also where the ID office and cafeteria are located Both sites hold new buildings (in progress now, completion by end of 2016). Both buildings are equipped with loading docks including truck drive-in entry, overhead cranes (30-ton), parking areas Fermilab will provide crane operators – mandated by safety rules Fermilab plans to utilize an existing building adjacent to the Far Detector Building as a staging and tool storage area
