It’s your senior year! And these are a few things you may be thinking about... Brain storm with the students what kind of activities that they have to look forward to in their senior year -grad night, prom, senior night, etc. What else should they be thinking about? -COLLEGE!!!

Do your research Academics Admission requirements Location Environment Size College expenses Housing Activities Academics: MAJORS, class size, student-to-faculty ratio Admission requirements : average GPA, required tests, rank Location : distance from home Environment: type of school (public/private; 2 yr. vs. 4 yr), school setting (urban/rural), co-ed, religious, closest city nearby, etc. Size: enrollment and physical size of campus College expenses : tuition, room & board Housing: availability, options, food plans, overall cost of living Activities: clubs & organizations, sports, sororities/fraternities, internships www.fullerton.edu/ADMISSIONS

What is the faculty to student ratio? What is the average classroom size? How many students attend the University What is the cost of attendance? What are the housing options? September-October TIPS: Use on-line College Search engines to explore campuses www.csumentor.edu www.ucop.edu www.californiacolleges.edu Narrow your college list to about five to eight colleges Create a Plan A and a Plan B Register and take the SAT I, ACT and SAT II (if needed) Colleges electronically receive scores about three weeks after the test Apply to Cal State Universities October 1 – November 30 Apply at www.csumentor.edu TIPS: Request brochures on admissions and financial aid Attend your school or district College Night or Fair Get a head start on your personal statement for the UCs. If you haven’t done so, ask your teachers or counselors for letters of recommendation as needed

November – December TIPS: California State University Apply between October 1st - November 30th www.csumentor.edu University of California Apply between November 1st – November 30th www.ucop.edu Independent Colleges and Universities Application deadlines vary. Check with specific campuses. www.aiccumentor.org TIPS: Make sure application is complete Check if schools have received official SAT/ACT scores and high school transcripts Check your email and student portal!

January-March Submit FAFSA between January 1 and March 2 of your senior year www.fafsa.ed.gov Attend a Financial Aid Night if available Four weeks after submitting your FAFSA, review your SAR (Student Aid Report) for accuracy Apply for scholarships www.fastweb.com Submit 7th semester transcripts (By March 22nd, 2013) Register and take placement exams (by May 4th, 2013) FYI: Most private universities like USC require the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE in addition to FAFSA www.fullerton.edu/ADMISSIONS

April - May Attend “Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day” (April 13th, 2013) Review admission decisions and financial aid award packages Accept your admission (or submit your Student Intent to Enroll form (SIE) and pay for your enrollment deposit (By May 1st, 2013) Register for New Student Orientation (CSUF - By May 17th, 2013 at 5 p.m.) Send the enrollment form and deposit check to the college of your choice (if needed) Register and take placement exams (if required) If you're waitlisted by a college, contact the admission department to inquire about next steps If you're not admitted to any of the colleges to which you applied, find out what colleges are still accepting admission applications and speak with a counselor to review all options. www.fullerton.edu/ADMISSIONS
