Fashion Merchandising Vocabulary 1.01

9-1-16 – Copy the following vocabulary into your notebook. 1. Designing- The process of creating new versions for garments, accessories, or other items. 2. Fashion designer- One who creates or adapts clothing and accessory designs for manufacturers, retailers, or individual clients. 3. Entrepreneur- Organizes and launches a new business venture and assumes the financial risk and uncertainty of the enterprise. 4. Fashion- Styles that are accepted and used by a particular group of people at a given time. 5. Fashion advertisers- Individuals who, by visiting fashion markets and showings, produce and disseminate the latest fashion information to educate both consumers and working members of the fashion industry.

9-2-16 & 9-6-16 6. Fashion publicist- Helps a company project a specific image through all forms of media using publicity and special events and by anticipating problems and handling complaints. 7. Merchandise buying- obtaining planned merchandise through vendors or other suppliers.  8. Merchandising- The process through which products are obtained (designed, developed, or presented for resale) and promoted to the point of sale, trying to match those products to established market requirements to make a profit. 9. Manufacturers- Those in the fashion industry that produces finished garments and accessories. 10. Production-The transformation of resources into a form that people need or want.
