Sustainable development of lakes in Cluj County “The Lakes In Our Lives” “Aurel Vlaicu” Tehnological Highschool

The concept of sustainable development means all forms and methods of socio-economic development which focuses primarily on ensuring a balance between social, economic and ecological elements of natural capital .

The Characteristics of our Region The landscape is varied and attractive ; The presence of scientific reservations (gaps, defiles, high swamps) and of ethnographical objectives; The alternation of lived and wild areas: Industrial polluters are almost absent; High hydro energetic potential; Remarkable touristic potential.

Facilities of the Lakes from Transilvania Electrical power production through the hydro centrals: Mărişel, Tarniţa , Someşul Cald , Gilău Forest exploitation and wood processing in timber factories and sawmills; Animal breeding; Relaxation tourism, weekend tourism in the lakes area.

Threats to lakes and rivers? Construction of large dams and alterations of river flow disrupts: the natural flooding cycles, reduces flows, cuts rivers off from their floodplains; the relief; the flora and fauna in the sectors where humans intervened; modification of the climatic parameters, the global warming;

Reservoir Lakes Together with the dams, the reservoir lakes form complexes integrated in the mountain landscape and because of this aspect a suitable tourism base can be arranged in their vicinity. We can mention Fantanele Tarniţa , Dragan, Somesul Cald and Gilau.

Tarniţa Lake is a reservoir lake that lies between the villages Rasca , Marisel and Gilau ( Cluj county . It is one of the most popular tourist areas in the county of Cluj . Tarniţa Dam is a dam in the form of an arch, with the main aim of producing electricity.

The main activities on the lake are fishing, water skiing , swimming, boating or jet skiing .

Beliş Lake This area has a great potential for tourism development, because it is easily accessible , it has numerous tourist attractions and the basic infrastructure .

providing necessary equipment to practice water sports ; In order to develop tourism, a leisure centre can be build near the lake, which will aim: greening the lake ;   providing necessary equipment to practice water sports ; creation of infrastructure and leisure time facilities ; unlocking the potential of fisheries ; rides on the lake with the main objective : the sunken church The Sunken Church

Gilău Lake It stores the water processed through the hydroelectric plant located at the foot of Somesul Cald dam. This lake is the drinking water source for the city of Cluj –Napoca.

Landscape changes The construction of a new lake; The destruction of the relief by the hydrotechnical works; The destruction of the flora and fauna in the sectors where humans intervened; Modification of the climatic parameters; The displacement of some villages (Beliş); The apparition of some new touristic areas around the accumulation lakes.

Salty Lakes The salty lakes linked to the old salt mines in Turda , Cojocna and Dej together with the mineral waters have led to a particular situation in terms of the spa resorts in Cluj county, unique in this regard in the country : each city has or can have on site or nearby a local spa resort.

Cluj-Napoca with Someşeni Resort and Cojocna Resort

Turda with The Salty Pools

Salt MineTurda Salt Mine Turda is a location with great heritage value and opportunities for tourism development

Near the Salt Mine Durgau-Turda there is a swimming pool area composed of two salty lakes: The Round Lake and the Mine Lake Around the Salt Mine there are development plans for a luxury resort, with 3, 4 and 5 stars hotels, an ice rink, a racecourse and a golf course.

Recreational Lakes Gheorgheni Lake has become an attractive leisure area, as running tracks were built , a green space , pavilions , and a "mini park " for children to play. And the most innovative change of this lake is the construction of a floating plastic bottles scene where concerts are organized regularly.

Chios artificial lake was built in 1865 Chios artificial lake was built in 1865. It is one of the most visited and popular tourist attractions in the city, together with the park and the buildings around it. In summer people can go boating on the lake, while in winter it is transformed into an ice rink.

The artificial lakes (ponds ) Besides fishing, these lakes have a tourism function derived from their role of aesthetically shaping the landscape. They are ideal spaces for the development of tourism: they are used as recreational fisheries , for recreational navigation craft or for swimming .

Mărtineşti Lakes were built by humans , in order to be able to procure food from them. These lakes are a huge attraction for fishermen.

Geaca Lakes are a tourist attraction Geaca Lakes are a tourist attraction . Here tourists can perform a wide range of sports activities (sunbathing , swimming , fishing, leisure boat rides )

CONCLUSIONS Hydrotechnical facilities have had positive effects (producing electrical power, supplying water , preventing floods, creating new recreation areas), much more visible and more important for the humans and nature than the negative ones (changes in the relief, climate, fauna, vegetation, human habitat etc.).

THANK YOU !
