Giving Voice to Values   What: Giving Voice to Values presentation and facilitated discussion as a Virginia Network offering at UVA. Giving Voice to Values (GVV) is an innovative approach to values-driven leadership development in business education and the workplace, pioneered by Dr. Mary C. Gentile (GentileM@darden.virginia.edu). GVV is based at University of Virginia-Darden School of Business, having been launched by Aspen Institute as Incubator & Founding Partner, with Yale School of Management; then supported at Babson College 2009-2016. Drawing on actual experience and scholarship, GVV fills a long-standing critical gap in the development of values-centered leaders. GVV is not about persuading people to be more ethical. Rather GVV starts from the premise that most of us already want to act on our values, but that we also want to feel that we have a reasonable chance of doing so effectively and successfully. This pedagogy and curriculum are about raising those odds. Rather than a focus on ethical analysis, the Giving Voice to Values (GVV) curriculum focuses on ethical implementation and asks the question: “What if I were going to act on my values? What would I say and do? How could I be most effective?” Who: Dr. Mary Gentile, Director of GVV and Darden professor Where: Darden General Purpose Room. Parking in the Darden Garage will be free for this event. The General Purpose Room is located in the lower level of the East building (part of the Inn at Darden). When: Wednesday, November 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. RSVP Required – email Carolyn Cullen at cc5ff@virginia.edu - Free and open to anyone at UVA http://www.virginianetwork.org/

Senate Discussions Staff Senate has been working hard to at improve the staff experience by advocating for Staff benefits in a variety of ways with several different departments. In your group, brainstorm 2-3 ways you think Staff Senate could work to improve the staff experience at UVA that does not directly involve benefits (i.e. nothing relating to pay, medical, parking, gym membership, etc.)

Senate Discussions Staff Senate has a great working relationship with UHR and Kelley Stuck has expressed interest in becoming more directly involved with Staff Senate workings. Discuss 2-3 other UVA offices and/or administrators that you think Staff Senate should cultivate a strong relationship with and why.
