A. A neuropathic ulcer is characterized by a punched-out appearance with loss of sensation in the surrounding skin. The foot may be warm to touch, and pulses may be present in the distal pedal arteries. B. An ischemic ulcer is characterized by a gangrenous skin change in the foot or toes.
