Injections 101 Injections depend upon: Type of animal involved Purpose of injection Amount of solution or medication needed
Syringes Measured in cc’s or mL Both cc’s and mL are the same measurement Come in disposable, automatic, and reusable Come in all sizes
Needles Two different measurements for needles Gauge: Needle Length: Measures the diameter of the needle The smaller the gauge, the bigger the diameter of the needle Needle Length: Varies on use and animal
Filling a Syringe Use a CLEAN needle and attach to a syringe Pull air in and out of syringe Know dosage amount from medication/vaccination bottle. Hold bottle upside down Pierce bottle top with needle Push in the amount of air as you want product (5cc of vaccine = 5 cc of air) Draw back on plunger to desired amount Flick syringe to get air bubbles to needle end, and compress plunger to release excess air
