Parliamentary Language CNCMUN Parliamentary Language

If English is the working language of a commission it must be used during all sessions.

As MUN is a formal event, the proper and parliamentary language is to be used at sessions as the delegates are betaking to honourable organisations, states or individuals.

Because of what has been previously mentioned, two statements must be followed. Make only use of third person Make use of parliamentary words

“The Republic of India considers…” Speak in third person. You will be representing an entity and its decisions, not your personal opinion. “The Republic of India considers…” (Instead of “I consider…”)

You will also have to refer with respect to other delegations You will also have to refer with respect to other delegations. There are two types of interventions to other delegations: direct and indirect.

“Is the delegation of United Mexican States aware that…?” In the first case (referring directly to other nation) is when the chair has already allowed you to speak to a specific delegation. “Is the delegation of United Mexican States aware that…?” (Instead of “are you aware that…”)

(Instead of “I do not agree with the decision you have stipulated.”) In the second case (referring indirectly to other nation) is when you are to speak about another delegation, but it is not needed the allowance of the chair. “The Canadian delegation does not agree with the decision delegations like Norway have stipulated.” (Instead of “I do not agree with the decision you have stipulated.”)

You will be able to make use of the first person in some specific cases: “We are here to solve this conflict” (referring to the delegations present in the committee). “We totally agree with freedom of expression in Denmark” (referring to the population of a country, including the delegate).

Use formal and parliamentary words Use formal and parliamentary words. Some expressions are informal to be used in a Model of United Nations, you will have to use synonyms or alternatives.
