Efficient Server Room Abstract Results and Discussion Introduction Ali Asghar, Muhammad Saeed Khan University of Gujrat, Gujrat, Pakistan ali.asghar112@gmail.com, dr.msaeed@uog.edu.pk Abstract Server Room is a requirement of all small to large organization for computer networking and internet distribution. This work presents efficiency improvement server as well as server room. The effects of retrofit designing of server room are technically observed and measured. Results and Discussion The thermostat temperature was increased from 19℃ to 24℃ which increased off time of AC resulting in power saving and direct cooled air through to server increased it efficiency. The installation of false ceiling decreased the required cooling space and the result is increased efficiency server. The efficient server room is shown in Fig. 3. Fig.3. Efficient server room The results of actions taken to make the server room efficient are shown in Table I. Table I Electrical energy saving Introduction The performance of efficiency investigation is established on synchronized work of technical sound people to find, evaluate and propose energy conservation and redesigning schemes (ECRS) [1]. By increasing the set point by one degree centigrade of air conditioners (AC) in summer will decrease energy utilization by ten percent [2]. Efficient Server Room The server room that is considered to convert into an efficient server room to conserve energy and increase server efficiency is shown in Fig. 1. Fig.1. General server room Up and down movable false ceiling was prepared and installed in the server room. The conditioner position adjustments were done as shown in Fig. 2. Fig.2. Efficient server room sketch Electrical power consumption, thermostat level change and change in efficiency of server were studied. Description Savings AC KWh at 19 ℃ 1.85 AC saving KWh/Centigrade (10%) 0.1 AC saving KWh at 24 ℃ 0.925 KWH saving/day (18hrs) 16.65 KWH saving/Month @ 30days/month 499.5 Saving/Month (US Dollar) 43.6 Saving/Year (US Dollar) 523 Conclusion The analysis of the server room were carried out asses it efficiency in energy saving, server working enhancement, environment effects and carbon release. An increase in server working efficiency was also observed, carbon release decreased and 522 KWh energy savings were observed.
