The role of Social Enterprise Learning outcomes to be covered: Explain the meaning of the term social enterprise Analyse how a social enterprise aims to deliver across a range of outputs, including: – economic, for example employment – social, for example sense of community – environmental, for example sustainable business practice Images © thinkstockphotos.co.uk

What is a Social Enterprise? These businesses aim to address social or environmental needs They make and do things to earn profits which is then used in a different way to other businesses A Social Enterprise can be a business in the Public or Private sector Images © thinkstockphotos.co.uk

What do Social Enterprises do? Create jobs e.g. for people who find it difficult to get a job Protect the environment e.g. use sustainable products, recycle waste Put their profits back into the community e.g. support local projects by providing financial support Provide services to people e.g. helping with shopping, house work or providing a taxi service Images © thinkstockphotos.co.uk
