CHINESE INVENTIONS BY: Evan Drollette

The Importance of Inventions to China Our world today has been greatly shaped by the many inventions that were from ancient China. These inventions are still being used today.

FIREWORKS The first fireworks were made by stuffing gunpowder into bamboo sticks. They thought the explosions would scare off the evil spirits. Lighting fireworks off on holidays is still popular in China today.

THE ABACUS The Abacus is rows of beads on metal rods used for calculations. It was invented in China in the second century. The Abacus was an early form of a calculator.

KITES The Chinese were the first people to ever make and fly kites. Bamboo was used for the frame of the kite and silk was used to make the sail and flying line. The national kite flying day is every year in April. Some kites are so big it takes 4 or 5 people to make it move or work.

MULBERRY BARK PAPER Before paper was invented the Chinese kept records on strips of bamboo but they stopped this as the bamboo took up too much room. So, In 105 A.D. Ts’ai Lun had a great idea. He remixed together a mushy mixture of mulberry bark, hemp, rags, and old fish nets. That’s how they made paper.

Comparing China & U.S.A. Inventions Same *Both countries have a need for inventions. *Both countries have smart people to make inventions. Different * The inventions in China are from a long time ago. *The inventions in the U.S.A. are not as old.
