Presentation transcript:

Anaphylaxis is likely when all of the following 3 criteria are met: • Sudden onset and rapid progression of symptoms. • Life-threatening Airway and/or Breathing and/or Circulation problems. • Skin and/or mucosal changes (flushing, urticaria, angioedema)

(= 500 micrograms = 0.5 mL of 1:1000) adrenaline. Adrenaline IM dose – adults: 0.5 mg IM (= 500 micrograms = 0.5 mL of 1:1000) adrenaline.

Adrenaline IM dose – children 12 years: 500 micrograms IM (0.5 mL) i.e. same as adult dose 300 micrograms (0.3 mL) if child is small.

One ampoule of 1:1000 adrenaline in 1 ml volume. = This equals 1mg in 1 ml. = This equals 1000 μg/ml.

What is the most serious adverse reaction to penicillin What is the most serious adverse reaction to penicillin? How Can you avoid it?

You are working in an outpatient clinic where you were asked to manage a patient with fever(temp 39), you diagnosed his condition as acute tonsillitis. You prescribed procaine penicillin 1,200,000 iu twice daily IM Following the injection you were asked to urgently resuscitate the patient as he loosed consciousness and fell on the ground. What are the possible causes? How are you going to manage this patient?

You are working as a resident physician at a medical word, you ere asked to see a patient who developed vomiting after an intravenous antibiotic. How are you going to think?

A patient with meningitis and suspected allergy to penicillin is in need of effective intravenous beta lactam antibiotic. Which drug are you going to choose? How are you going to administer the drug?
