Year 1: Post Exam SSA Group poster presentation

This SSA provides you with an opportunity - to explore a particular area from the Year 1 curriculum in greater depth to develop your skills as reflective learners as independent learners as collaborative learners as enquiry-based learners To produce and present a conference style poster - something you will do at professional and research conferences.

Step One

Already done: Each of you should already have identified one topic from this year’s core curriculum that you would like to explore in greater depth: looking at clinical application / integration across disciplines Prepared a very brief proposal identifying The topic and where it was covered in the curriculum The particular area(s) you want to explore / question(s) you want to ask Why you think this is an interesting / important subject to study

Step Two

Working in your M group - TODAY (Academic staff will be sitting in) Listen to the proposal from each group member Select / amalgamate topics to identify 3 poster topics for your M group Each must be the right size so that you can research the topic from several points of view. Everybody in the group must be able to sign up to 1 topic. No poster group should be smaller than 4 or bigger than 8 students Note the 3 selected topics on the form provided Each student to sign up to 1 topic (no swapping later)

Step Three

Working in your Poster Group Discuss the subject and summarise what you “know” from the core curriculum Identify the areas / questions for further exploration Decide on the rationale for selecting the topic and the areas for further exploration Undertake the exploration, taking note of your major sources of information - use journals and reputable web sites Select the information you are going to present in the poster Design the poster and prepare the presentation
