Syrian Refugees in Lebanon Around 1.1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon – population of Lebanon 4.4 million (Can you imagine the population of Auckland arriving on our shores?) In 2015 the UN’s appeal raised only 62% of necessary funding for the region Severe restrictions on work for refugees Around 70% of refugees in Lebanon now live below the Lebanese extreme poverty line – up from 49% in Inflated rents and accommodation costs

Tearfund’s partner in Lebanon, The Lebanese Baptist Society has been working tirelessly since 2011 to help some of the most desperate Syrian refugee families in Lebanon. They say conditions are worsening considerably and hopelessness, pessimism, resentment is growing. Tearfund is raising money to provide them with funding so they can continue to help refugee families. Any money raised before August 1st will be doubled by the New Zealand Aid Programme.

How are they coping? 9% of families send children to work: Because they simply cannot afford to survive any other way. 89% Are in Debt: Because families are unable to buy food and pay for housing on the money they have. They’re living on credit to survive. 61%: Smaller meals, or skipping meals completely to help food stretch further.
