Athletes with unethical behavior US Figure Skating Championship, 1994 Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan rivals on ice Right before competition, Kerrigan is hit in the knee with a metal pipe by an unknown man Amid suspicion, Harding admits she, her now ex-husband, and body guard hired the man to break Kerrigan’s leg Harding banned from skating Threatens to sue and is re-instated At the following Winter Olympics, Harding places 8th while Kerrigan wins Silver

The “Cheating Culture” On most college campuses, 70% of students admit to some cheating 50% of high school students plagiarize using the Internet Tax evasion by the rich is rampant and the average taxpayer has to come up with an extra $3000 a year to cover the shortfall Nearly half of resumes contain lies Employee theft totals $600 billion or 6 percent of GDP. Half of all major leaguers are using steroids. Reporters have fabricated stories, and major writers have been caught plagiarizing.

One answer to The Cheating Culture

Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest! Mark Twain

The choices about how to honor your values as you go through life aren’t easy, and you don’t just figure this out when you’re twenty one. It’s an ongoing thing. The Roman philosopher Seneca once said that ʺNature does not bestow virtue; to be good is an art.ʺ

REFLECTION #9 Thinking about the material covered today, define ETHICS as it plays a role in your life today and the implications ethical decisions may have in your future.
