The Vitality of the Church “Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” (Acts 20:28)

The Purpose of Pentecost “…of all that Jesus began to do and teach” (Acts 1:1) The greatest event in human history was: THE INCARNATION.

The Purpose of Pentecost “…This same Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11) The greatest event in the future will be: THE CONSUMMATION.

The Purpose of Pentecost Evangelicals emphasize the reception of the Holy Spirit at conversion. Evangelicals take their theology from Paul. Pentecostals take their theology from Luke.

The Purpose of Pentecost Who is correct? Paul or Luke? The answer is Both. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit AND The empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

What is the Purpose of Pentecost? *Not to save or sanctify us *Not to make us ready for Heaven *Not so we can have an emotional experience *Not so we can speak with tongues *Not so we can be elite

The Vitality of the Church What then is the Purpose of Pentecost? = It is Participation with the Holy Spirit in the continuation of the activity of the Lord Jesus Christ. = It is living out the theology of Paul, Luke, & John. (14:16, 26-27; 15:26; 16:7)
