HEAL/Advisory Program Higher Education Advisory Lessons HEAL/Advisory Program Presented by: SHHS & PHS HEAT Members

Vision Statement The vision of HEAT (Higher Education Advisory Team) is to provide all students with lessons that emphasize the importance of graduating from high school and enrolling in post-secondary education.

Objective Implement HEAL curriculum through the Advisory Period Peer Mentors will present HEAL activities. Advisory teachers without a peer mentor will be given the materials for those lessons so that all students have the opportunity to hear them. Activities other than HEAL will be presented by the advisory teachers. Resources used for HEAL are from state and non-profit organizations.

Purpose Support College and Career Readiness Standards To expect that all students can prepare for and enroll in post-secondary education. To create a school environment that encourages and supports preparation for college readiness. To share college readiness and/or workforce strategies with students so they are better able to become productive citizens. Supports all State, District and Campus Initiatives To support student attendance during school and participation in extracurricular activities. To support Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships.

Implementation Needs – Part I Establish a Higher Education Advisory Team (HEAT) Staff Team that is responsible for providing HEAL Curriculum Identify, recruit and train Peer Mentors by HEAT team member(s). AVID & Senior and Junior Grade College Bound Students

Implementation Needs – Part II Peer Mentors: Attend training for HEAL activities Facilitate HEAL activities within assigned advisory Teachers: Facilitate Lessons through Advisory Period Support Peer Mentor Attend HEAL trainings Campus: Administrative Support in the implementation of HEAL Program Scheduling of Advisory Period Higher Education Advisory Team Planning Time Staff Development Overview of HEAL Program District: Curriculum Support & Staff Development Support of HEAL curriculum within Eduphoria!Forethought Support of continuing Staff Development

Future Costs GEAR UP has provided: Possible District/Campus Needs: materials, supplies and incentives for HEAL substitutes needed for HEAT meetings Staff Development for teachers over College Readiness Summer Training for Peer Mentors Possible District/Campus Needs: Update of materials as needed Substitutes for HEAT planning and curriculum development. Summer training and/or conferences of Peer Mentors.
