9th-11th Grade Lesson January 23, 2017 Welcome to Advisory! 9th-11th Grade Lesson January 23, 2017 Objective: To bring awareness to Student Government in OHHS and to inspire student participation in the upcoming ASB elections on February 6th and class officer elections on February 13th in advisory classes.

We need you in student leadership! Read: There are countless opportunities to make a difference. Now, more than ever before, we need you in student leadership. There is a need for students from different backgrounds, with different life experiences to seize the opportunity to get involved, to participate, to dream and to make some real change happen!

What is Student Leadership?

Student Leadership is the opportunity to: take the initiative and make a difference; make the choice to serve others through love in order to build influence and earn the role of leader; create a climate at OHHS in which student needs are met and students want to come our school. Student leadership at OHHS is about making the choice to serve others through love in order to build influence and earn the role of leader. This is the ultimate chance to create a climate at OHHS in which student needs are met and students want to come our school. We want our people to come to our school because we are nice to each other and look out for each other; not just because they have to.

Your purpose is far more than assemblies or dances, it is to change the climate of our school. Read: This is the ultimate chance to create a climate at OHHS in which student needs are met and students want to come our school.

Make the CHOICE to run as a representative of your class or of the associated student body (ASB). Pick up a packet from Mrs. Schulle at D107. Campaign, put up posters & get your name out there. This is the time to show your peers why they should vote for you! So now what?

ASB & Class Office Representative Responsibilities The TOP FIVE candidates will act as Class Office Representatives. The TOP SIX candidates will act as the ASB Representatives. Responsibilities for elected Representatives include (but are not limited to): Supervises class activities and runs council meetings. Assists the class president and fills in when the president is unavailable. Keeps accurate records of meetings and class activity schedules. Keeps track of class funds. Communicates between classes, keeps track of class spirit points and publicizes for class activities. Communicates with school & community and acts as ASB historian. READ: The top five candidates for each graduating class and the top six for ASB (meaning the 5 / 6 candidates with the most votes) will be elected to the cabinet of representatives for their class/ASB. In their cabinet meetings, with their advisor, they will assign the positions of President/Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Inter-High and Public Relations (ASB only) to each other based on their interests and their strengths and weaknesses.

Drew Dudley: Everyday Leadership Points to consider: Leadership is not a characteristic reserved for certain people. Leadership is about the lollipop moments. Can you think of a moment when someone said or did something that made your life better? Have you told that person? Every single one of you has been a catalyst for a lollipop moment. Watch the video, while considering the points listed on slide. Discuss after watching, if comfortable with group.
