Teacher Salary Increase – How it Works Who meets the qualifications to receive the increase? Teachers must have taught at an AZ district or charter school during the 2016-17 school year and continue to teach at an AZ district or charter school during the 2017-18 school year. What is the definition of a “teacher” as discussed above? For the purposes of this House Bill, “teacher” means a certified teacher who holds a classroom teaching position, e.g., PE, music, band, kindergarten, etc.

Teacher Salary Increase – How it Works cont. Who does not qualify for the increase? Certified support personnel who are not paid from the Instruction Function 1000 such as counselors, media specialists, speech language pathologists, substitutes teachers, purchased services personnel (Smart School teachers), are not eligible for the funding.

Teacher Salary Increase – How it Works cont. How is the 1.06% salary increase computed? The increase for each eligible teacher is based upon the teacher’s earnings for the 2016-17 school year. Included in the total earnings will be any compensation earned for working directly with students such as tutoring, coaching, and performance pay. Will the 1.06% salary increase be added to teacher base salary? Because there is no guarantee for long term funding, the increase will not be added to the base salary.

When Will The Increase Be Paid? Any eligible teachers employed by the District as of today 10/25/17 and is still an employee on 12/21/17 will receive the 1.06% one-time salary increase. It is the District’s intent to pay the 1.06% monies on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
