Dress Code Math Facts Weekly Review The Plan for this week: Monday: Lesson 2.1 - Congruent Figures Tuesday: Lesson 2.2 – Translations Wednesday: Lesson 2.3 - Reflections Thursday: Lesson 2.4 - Rotations Friday: Quiz, Lesson 2.5 - Similar Figures 3 minutes

Last Week's Challenges Answers If a+1 = b+2 = c+3 = d+4 = a+b+c+d+5, then a+b+c+d =?? a=2/3 b=-1/3 c=-4/3 d=-7/3 a+b+c+d=-10/3 Formula’s Challenge

Challenge of the Week The diagram is composed of nine overlapping circles labeled A to I. Each circle has a different number value, from 1 to 9. Where some of the circles overlap, there is a number; this number is the SUM of the values of the two overlapping circles. Can you figure out the correct number value for each circle? Answer Key: B=1, G=2, D=3, C=4, I=5, A=6, F=7, 8=E, 9=H

Competition: How many can you remember in a minute?

Review on Graphing: Tonight’s worksheet   x y

Congruent: figures that have same size and same shape Essential Question: How do you determine if figures are congruent? Vocab Congruent: figures that have same size and same shape Corresponding matching sides of 2 figures sides: Corresponding Matching angles of 2 figures angles:

In triangle ABC below, line segments AB and DE are congruent. Congruent Line Segments: have the same length. Tick marks indicate congruent line segments. In triangle ABC below, line segments AB and DE are congruent. Congruent Angles all have the same measure in degrees Same # of curved marks in angles represent same degree angle. Angles A and D are congruent Congruent Figures have ALL corresponding line segments and angles are congruent. (Same size & same shape)   E D F

Identify any congruent figures, lines or angles. The sides of the octagons are not congruent. Each side of the outer figure is larger than each side of the inner figure. Angles are congruent.

The sectors in the figure are congruent. Identify any congruent figures. The sectors in the figure are congruent.

If all corresponding sides and angles of two polygons are congruent, then the polygons are congruent. Triangles Side-Side-Side Rule: If the corresponding sides are congruent, then the corresponding angles will always be congruent. This does not apply to polygons that are NOT triangles!

Are the triangles are congruent? Thumbs Up or Down Are the triangles are congruent? 6 cm 4 cm A B C 5 cm 4 cm R P Q The triangles are not congruent. Although two sides in one triangle are congruent to two sides in the other, the third sides are not congruent.

For polygons with more than three sides, it is not Thumbs Up or Down For polygons with more than three sides, it is not enough to compare the measures of their sides.

Practice

Example 1 Identify the line segments that are congruent in the figure. B C D E AB AC One tick mark BC DE Two tick marks BD CE Three tick marks

Practice

Example 2 100° 100° 80° 80° c. What is the measure of angle K?

Practice Determine the unknown measure of the side & angle in the set of congruent polygons. ? The corresponding sides are congruent. 135° 5 ft 120° 6 ft 45° 60° The unknown side length is 4 ft The unknown angle is . 8 ft 8 ft ? 60° 45° 6 ft 5 ft 135° 120° 4 ft

Practice Identify the missing measures in the set of congruent polygons. A. a = 6, b = 9, c = 40° B. a = 9, b = 6, c = 40° C. a = 9, b = 6, c = 60° D. a = 6, b = 9, c = 60°
