Oh I would like to be among the shepherds On the hills with their lambs and woolly *sheep.
the angels sing their song merr-il-y ding, ding dong. Oh I would like to hear the angels sing their song with their harps and bells merr-il-y ding, ding dong.
Oh I would love to see the shepherds gorping as they take in the news of Jesus’ *birth
and I’d love to dance with joy as they go to meet the Boy who comes from heaven to live on *earth.
but I don't like the smell Oh I would like to be beside the Manger, but I don't like the smell of donkey *poo!
and the lambs that bleat and all-that-stable muck. and I'm not sure at all about the hens that cluck, and the lambs that bleat and all-that-stable muck.
But I am sure that God came as baby, That he did-n’t-come- to-judge or to *condemn,
and he welcomes girls and boys in their sadness and their joys to see the Manger ..... in *Bethlehem!
really-like-to-squint Oh I would like to hitch-a-ride with Wise Men, and I’d really-like-to-squint up at the *Star,
bumpety, bump, bump, *bump! and I’d sure like to sit beside a camel’s hump, and to bounce along, bumpety, bump, bump, *bump!
really-love-to-sort-out horrid *Herod And I’d really-love-to-sort-out horrid *Herod
And-to-tell-him hate and killing make no *sense,
and I’d love to be around with gifts of gold, myrrh when the Boy plays on the ground with gifts of gold, myrrh and *frankincense!
Oh I’d re-ally-love to sneak into the Temple and be there with the old-folk at the *door.
a cel-e-bration-*sing. Oh I’d so love to see them hug the new-born King And to join with them in a cel-e-bration-*sing.
I’ll-be-his- special*friend Oh I’d sure love to hold the baby Jesus and to promise-Him- I’ll-be-his- special*friend
