Loving the World, or, the Will of God (1 John 2:15-16) Guard Your Heart (3) Loving the World, or, the Will of God (1 John 2:15-16)

The World Kosmos: 1 John 2:15-16 15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If any-one loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The World

Kosmos: (1) an apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order (2) ornament, decoration, adornment: 1 Peter 3:3 (3) the world, i. e. the universe: Acts 17:24; Rom 4:13 (4) the circle of the earth, the earth: Mark 16:15 (5) the inhabitants of the world: 1 Cor 4:9 The World

Kosmos: (6) the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ John 7:7 (7) worldly affairs; the aggregate of things earthly; the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages, pleasures, etc., which, although hollow and frail and fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God and are obstacles to the cause of Christ: Gal 6:14 The World

Kosmos: The world of selfish ambition, pride, and the love of success or flattery (J.M. Boice) Do not court the intimacy and the favor of the unchristian world around you; do not take its customs for your laws, nor adopt its ideals, nor covet its prizes, nor seek fellow-ship with its life. (Law) NEB, “Do not set your hearts on the godless world or anything in it.” The World

The World First we want what can’t have (lust of the flesh). Then we see what we can’t have and want it anyway (lust of the eye or mind). Finally we get what we shouldn’t have wanted, and we get prideful (pride of life). The World

1 John 2:17 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. The Will of God

The Will of God 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 1 Peter 4:1-2 Matthew 5:8 Romans 12:1-2 2 Cor 6:14-18 The Will of God

Say “NO” (more often) to the time-soaking, brain-draining, attention-grabbing demands of media technology. Daniel 2:19-23
