Presentation transcript:

Growth Mind set at St Bon’s

Carol Dweck and her colleagues became interested in students' attitudes about failure. They noticed that some students rebounded while other students seemed devastated by even the smallest setbacks. After studying the behaviour of thousands of children, Dr. Dweck coined the terms fixed mind-set and growth mind-set to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger.

At St Bon’s We want children to leave St Bon’s with a growth mind-set towards their learning and their lives. We want children to recognise that their brain can change and grow. We want them to recognise that learning is a journey and that everyone tackles the journey at a different pace.

Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory What is it about Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory What is it about? Learning to be the best YOU there could possibly be! How do we teach it to the children? Through the seven dimensions of learning- plus 1 more special one.

Learning Relationships Effective learners love sharing their thoughts and ideas with others and working well together to solve problems.

Creativity Effective learners will try to solve problems by playing with ideas or possibilities. They are not afraid to experiment or try ideas out.

Critical Curiosity The Curious Cat is always interested and curious about what is going on around them.

Meaning Making Our learning is one giant web in which everything is connected.

Resilience We want all of our children to understand that effective learners don't give up easily when things are tricky but keep going.

Changing and Learning The chameleon is excellent at changing and adapting to its environment.

Strategic Awareness We want out learners to be able to choose which strategy or approach best suits a task.

I’m not there yet…but I’m trying to get there!
