Review - Sexual Reproduction Sexual Intercourse: The physical mating of a man and woman. The penis of the man enters the vagina of the woman semen (containing sperm cells) is released. The sperm cells released in the vagina swim into the uterus and enter the fallopian tubes. If the sperm cells encounter an egg cell in a fallopian tube, the two cells may join and from a fertilized egg cell. This process when they join is called fertilization. The fertilized egg cell divides and move down the fallopian tube into the uterus. In the uterus it attaches to the uterine wall and starts to grow. This marks the beginning of pregnancy. Ask, “what is sexual reproduction?” Discuss the 3 bullet points. We encourage them to talk to their parents or a trusted adult about the topic of human sexuality and what we have discussed. They will help you understand this subject and the importance it plays in human relationships and the family.
Embryonic & Fetal Development At this stage the dividing cell mass is known as an embryo. This stage lasts until eight or nine weeks following fertilization. From eight or nine weeks until birth, the developing baby is referred to as a fetus. Many complex changes occur during the embryonic and fetal development process. At the end of fetal development the baby is born. A normal birth involves the baby moving from the uterus to the vagina and then to the outside world. A normal pregnancy lasts about nine months. Ask, “what is sexual reproduction?” Discuss the 3 bullet points. We encourage them to talk to their parents or a trusted adult about the topic of human sexuality and what we have discussed. They will help you understand this subject and the importance it plays in human relationships and the family.
Pregnancy Prevention Abstinence – abstaining for sexual intercourse. The best way to eliminate the risk of pregnancy. Abstain until you are able to handle the responsibilities of a mature relationship (marriage, commitment, parenthood, fidelity, family). Birth control Use of birth control is a private matter. No method of birth control is 100% reliable Collect the worksheet.
Unintended Pregnancy If an unintended pregnancy occurs, the couple and, finally, the woman, must choose one of the following courses of action: To raise the child. To allow someone to adopt the child. To have an abortion. Abortion: The process that ends a pregnancy after it starts. Spontaneous abortion is a natural occurrence (miscarriage). Induced abortion is caused deliberately to end a pregnancy; may be used to safe the life of the pregnant woman or could be carried out as a difficult, personal choice. If you have further questions about birth control or abortion, please speak to your parent, guardian, trusted adult, or a member of the clergy.
