Author: S.E.Hinton Susan Eloise Hinton was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1948. She always enjoyed reading but wasn't satisfied with the literature that was being written for teenagers. It seemed fake and not like REAL people who had problems. So…At the age of 16, she wrote The Outsiders. It was published when she was only 17. Because of her age, publishers were afraid no one would take her seriously. They made her pen name S.E. to hide her gender.
