Entering the classroom Greet the teacher by name Respond with “Yes/No Sir/Ma’am” Enter the room quietly Get your materials Go directly to your seat Begin work immediately
Entering the classroom during class Knock on the door If lights are turned off, do not enter for any reason. Wait to be “waved” into the classroom Enter quietly Go directly to your station Get to work immediately
Getting to work immediately Have all your materials Read the assignment on each station Begin working on assignment If you don’t understand, quietly ask a neighbor Being on time is important. Five unexcused tardies equal an office referral.
Coming to attention Look at the teacher Stop talking Listen for instructions Continue working when instructed
Asking a question or participating in class discussions Raise your hand Wait to be called on Ask your question or give your comment succinctly
Getting materials without disturbing others Quietly walk directly to where the materials are located Get your materials Return directly to your seat Continue work
Indicating whether you understand Look at the teacher If you don’t understand, raise your hand, wait to be call on, then ask your question Respond with “sir”
When you need a writing utensil or paper Ask at the beginning of the class Bring collateral to exchange for your supplies
Saying “thank you” Look the person in the eye who you are thanking Say “thank you,” followed by the person’s name Explain why you are thanking them Smile Thank you should be said whenever someone does something nice for you
Exchanging papers Exchange papers with the person at your table If you don’t have a partner, exchange with the closest person to you If groups of 3, exchange your paper so each one has a different paper
If you finish early Read your reading book Work ahead on other assignments Finish any missing assignments Work on an assignment from another class
When given an assignment Write the assignment in your agenda Ask questions if you have any Accept the homework assignment
When you are absent You are responsible for missing work You will have 2 days to complete the missing work If you are planning on being absent, notify the teacher ASAP to get the assignments beforehand
End of class dismissal The teacher dismisses the class, not the clock or the bell Push in your chair (chairs around you) Put your materials away Exit quietly Say goodbye to the teacher and other students
When a school-wide announcement or class page is made Stop talking Listen to the announcement Then continue working quietly
When visitors are in the classroom Continue with your work Be polite to the guest, answer questions if asked Maintain work if the teacher is called away If appropriate, engage in conversation with the visitor DO NOT EMBARRASS YOURSELF OR OTHERS WITH FOOLISHNESS!
If the teacher is out of the classroom Continue with your work Maintain the classroom guideline and procedures
Walking in the hallway during class time Line-up single-file in the classroom Be quiet Proceed out the door, without talking, in a single-file line Listen for instructions while walking in the hallway Walk on the right side of the hallway Wait outside the destination until you have permission to enter
If you are suddenly ill If time, ask the teacher for a pass If no time, go directly to the restroom If you cannot make it to the restroom, please grab the waste basket on your way out Report back when you are done to get a pass to the nurse’s office
Responding to a fire drill Line-up at the door Listen for the teacher’s instructions Exit the room to the left Go down the hallway, past the office, proceed `out the front door. When you get outside, go toward the church and line up by the pear trees. Be Quiet until Fire Drill is Over!
Things that will not be tolerated here! Profanity- You will speak to others with respect. Respect my willingness and sacrifice to help you. If you want to be treated fairly, be respectful. Teachers have emotions too. I will make bad calls. Being respectful allows me to rethink situations for your benefit.
MORE Threats- Nobody will threaten others. All threats will be taken seriously and be grounds for an immediate office referral. Physical assault will be referred to the office immediately and law enforcement if appropriate. I will not let discipline matters take over instruction. We want you here at Jackson, but there are other places that can meet those needs if you decide to continue to make bad choices.
