The Karnataka state government has appealed to the Union government to bring Packaged Drinking Water under “Essential Commodities Act”. The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies said that it could help to curb the sell of Packaged Drinking Water above MRP. Legal Action against MRP Violators The Department of Legal Metrology has already started taking action against violators of MRP rules. In Mangalore, 69 commercial establishments were checked and 12 cases were registered against those who sold Packaged Drinking Water with higher MRP by pasting any sticker on the MRP.
