Safety- Safety -Safety Always think safety.

Safety is an Attitude Being safe is not being chicken Keeps you and everyone safe Accidents happen when not thinking Dangerous machines and materials demand respect and alertness Always use common sense Think about the consequences of your decisions

Shop Safety Rules Always have a safe attitude (No messing around) Always wear safety glasses Take your time do it right (measure twice cut once) Keep a clean and neat work area Take care of all the tools (use properly, clean, put away) Always follow teacher’s instruction (never use tools without permission)

Woodshop Hazards

Hazardous Materials Liquids and Vapors ( solvents and chemicals) Keep shop well ventilated Long periods of time ( respirators) Some woods Sawdust Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS) Dispose of hazardous waste properly Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA)

Hand Tool Safety Hand tools can cause many types of injuries: Cuts, Abrasions, and Punctures as well as Eye Injuries

To avoid Injuries: Use the right tool for the job Do not use broken of damaged tools Cut away from your body Never toss or throw tools Use the right personal protective equipment Never carry a sharp pointed tool in your pocket Store tools properly when you are finished working Do not use excessive force or pressure on tools

Basic tips when using hand tools Use good quality tools Inspect tools for defects Ensure handles of tools fit tightly into the head of the tool Wear safety glasses Keep work area clean and tidy Store tools properly when not in use
