LIDO- LIstening the Deep Ocean ESONET Demonstration Mission The objective of the proposal will be achieved through the extension of the present capabilities of the observatories working in the ESONET key-sites of Eastern Sicily (NEMO-SN1) Gulf of Cadiz (GEOSTAR in the NEAREST pilot experiment) by installing not-already-included sensor equipments related to Bioacoustics and Geohazards;

The first real-time seafloor observatory of ESONET NEMO-SN1: The first real-time seafloor observatory of ESONET Established on the basis of an agreement between two major Italian research institutions: Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV). NEAREST Pilot Experiment: Gulf of Cadiz Highly populated and prone to devastating earthquakes and tsunamis (e.g., 1755 Lisbon earthquake) More than ten years of geological and geophysical investigations off SW Iberia (multibeam bathymetry, side-scan sonar, high-resolution and multichannel seismics, and sampling which probed the first kilometres of the upper crust at various resolution) Recognition and mapping of active tectonic structures likely to generate large earthquakes and tsunamis. LIDO – Scientific and Technological Objectives improving the real-time and near-real-time detection of signals by a multiparameter seafloor observatory network at regional scale for the characterisation of potential tsunamigenic sources allow real-time and near-real-time long-term acoustic monitoring of marine mammals at regional level, as well as noise propagation development of the first nucleus of a regional multiparameter seafloor network of homogeneous observatories

LIDO – WP 2 Data Management the data stream from Eastern Sicily and Gulf of Cadiz Observatory sites will be integrated into a common data acquisition and distribution service. 1. Proposal for a contribution to ANTARES Demo Mission: To include in the workplan an activity to achieve the data integration of ANTARES-DM and LIDO with in the same distribution service

2. Proposal for a contribution to ANTARES Demo Mission: To perform an experiment of acoustic communication with a novel modem and protocol between ANTARES and a remote seafloor module. The seafloor module could be developed within Italian regional technological and reseach projects.

IL07 Or SJB? Possible configurations: One way: using one of the IL07 hydrophone properly configured Two-way: installing on IL07 a twin modem like the one on the remote module IL07 Or SJB? T Remote Seafloor module
