Medieval Africa Project

Medieval Africa Project: Time Travel Guide You are going to be creating a time travel guide focused on life in Medieval Africa – specifically in the empires of Ghana and Mali. Your goal is to explain and illustrate life in Medieval Ghana and Mali in clear and historically accurate ways. You do not want the time travelers who are using your guide to get lost, physically or culturally! Make sure they are able to navigate their way around the empires and understand key vocabulary & concepts.

Project Requirements Each team member must include: At least 1-2 pages on the team time travel guide focused on her/his assigned topics At least 5 relevant images BE CREATIVE! Engage your audience - time travelers. It is your goal to encourage them to WANT to travel to Medieval Ghana and Mali. Make these empires sound appealing, exciting, interesting, and “worth the trip” to the travelers!

What did families value, and why? 3. What ways did children receive an education in Medieval Africa? What were griots, and how did they help with schooling? 4. Describe the complex role of women in Medieval African societies. Find the responses to your questions in playlist 2.

Facilitator: Religion, Culture, and Trade Slide #1 1. Who were the first known people to settle in Northern Africa? What did they have to cross to get there? What animal eventually helped with the journey? What were caravans? What was traded? 2. What was the first empire to develop? Provide 2-3 specific details about this empire when it was in power. Why did this empire eventually fall? 3. What empire replaced the empire you wrote about in #2? Provide 2-3 specific details about this new empire. Find the responses to your questions in playlist 3.
