Acts 16:1-5 1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. And a disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek, 2 and he was well spoken of by the brethren who were in Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering the decrees which had been decided upon by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe. 5 So the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number daily.

“I am immortal until my work is done!” Thought “I am immortal until my work is done!” George Whitefield “Let the name of Whitefield die so that the cause of Christ may live.”

Discipleship the process of becoming and being a fervent follower and learner of Jesus Christ. I. A consuming desire for people (16:1a) II. A committed desire for a person (16:1b-3a)

What does a disciple look like? 1. Puts Jesus first in all things (Luke 9:23-26) 2. Obeys the teachings of Jesus (John 8:31-32) 3. Fruitfulness (John 15:5-8) 4. Loves other believers (John 13:34-35) 5. Evangelism/Discipleship – makes fervent followers of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20)

How can we know if our discipleship is Spirit-driven? III. A considerate desire for people (16:3b) Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 1 CORINTHIANS 9:19-22

How can we know if our discipleship is Spirit-driven? IV. A comprehensive desire for people (16:4-5) 4 Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering the decrees which had been decided upon by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe. 5 So the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number daily.

How can we know if our discipleship is Spirit-driven? 1. Unified in doctrine (16:4) 4 Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering the decrees which had been decided upon by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe

PHILIPPIANS 2:1-2 1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

How can we know if our discipleship is Spirit-driven? 1. Unified in doctrine (16:4) 2. Strengthening believers in the faith (16:5a) So the churches were being strengthened in the faith… 3. Experiencing growth (16:5b) So the churches…were increasing in number daily
