Wonderful Rainforests By: Karly&Renee
What is a rain forest? A rainforest is a land of green trees. It is full of rare animals and plants.Animals and plants live in different layers of the rainforests.
Location of Rain Forests The world has three regions of rainforests: the Amazon basin of South America, Africa’s Congo basin, and the Malay archipelago(ar- kuh- PEL- uh- go) in the South Pacific.
Emergent Layer The emergent layer is a layer that has trees that poke up from above the canopy layer . The animals in the emergent layer are toucans, harpy eagles, mosquitoes, pygmy gliders, sloths, parrots, monkeys, and butterflies.
Canopy Layer The canopy layer is the second highest layer in the rainforest. The canopy layer has these animals: jaguars, green iguanas, three-toed sloths, boa constrictors, spider monkeys, bats, ocelots, and frogs.
Understory Layer The smaller trees make the under story. The animals that live there are: snakes, ocelots, geckos, red-eye tree frogs, katydids, emerald tree boas, bats, spiders, and hummingbirds.
Forest Floor The forest floor has many shadowy areas where animals live. The animals are: army ants, capybaras, armadillos, tarantulas, anteaters, giant earthworms, Honduran milk snakes, and insects.
Deforestation It can take less than 10 years for tropical rainforest land to become as barren and lifeless as a desert. When rainforests are burnt down to clear land, the trees stop giving out oxygen.
People of the Rain Forest The people of the rainforest depend on the trees, animals, and plants. The people of the rainforest are 4 foot 5 inches. They use the plants for medicine and even food. The rainforests are important to the people.
Please save the rainforests!
