The composition Component You will write a Thanksgiving themed story. You will be given writing prompts to choose from OR you may create your own story. The story should be written for younger students. (Either K – 2 grade students or 3 – 6 grade students.) The story must contain at least five paragraphs. Once you finish your rough draft, print and proofread it. You may also have a classmate proofread it for you; you may also take it home to proofread and correct it. After proofreading, fix your mistakes and print a final copy. Story starters are on the next slide!

Story Starters The turkeys were restless the week before Thanksgiving...... Once upon a time there was a turkey who never.... There were turkey feathers everywhere, but no turkey in the barn..... On the first Thanksgiving the children were playing in the woods when.... My grandmother was cooking the turkey when all of a sudden.... It was a very cold Thanksgiving day and the snow was falling.... The kids were playing hide and seek at grandmother's house when dinner was ready. All the children came running but one,..... Help! Help Me! You can also come up with your own!

Illustration Components Think about your story. Think about what parts of the story could be illustrated to enhance the story. Images should be well thought out and planned. Finishing the assignment first is not the GOAL. The goal is to create a product that you could present to a group of younger students. Before staring your images in Paint, ask for a piece of “storyboard” paper to plan your images. The pictures you create will be used beside of text in a PowerPoint to create a “storybook”.

Ready to Start Images in Paint? Create a Thanksgiving folder inside of your student folder to save all of your images in. Don’t rush through your images just to get finished. Images should show thought and planning. Create at least four images that illustrate some part of the story you wrote. These images will be used on different pages of your “storybook”. Remember to save all images as PNG files inside of your Thanksgiving folder. At the end of the storybook, you will create an animated image by converting the images to GIFs and using the GIF Animator.

PowerPoint “Storybook” Component Create a “storybook” in PowerPoint. (See the example on the next slide.) Divide your story up into “pages” to add to the slides. Use the images you created in paint to illustrate your story. The last slide of your storybook should be an animation. Convert your images to GIF files using www.online-convert.com. You do NOT have to make more images, simply convert the images you have already created for the story. Next, create the animation in the GIF Animator that is located on your desktop.
