Security and Shelter There is two types of security: Physical and Psychological. Psychological security is when the kids feel safe and in a comfortable place. Physical security must be met before the students can learn in the environment. This is a picture of a couch with books around it. The kids can sit on it and read their books. This an example of psychological security because a couch familiar thing to them and it allows them to read comfortably.

Social Contact Social contact is how the room is set up and how to promote kids working with each other. There are 3 different ways you can set up a classroom: Horseshoe, Cluster, or Interior loop. Its good to move the kids around throughout the year, so they can get to know and work with all their classmates. This classroom is set up in a cluster. Clusters are great for promoting small group work or individual work. The teacher can also move around the desks very easily and switch up the students seating arrangements throughout the year. She can also change the amount of students per table.

Symbolic Identification Symbolic identification is visual cues that can help and promote students learning in the classroom. It also helps reminding students how they should be behaving and acting in the class. There is a Give Me Five sign on the white board and also a Henry Clay Behavior Expectation chart on the wall. This helps students know what is expected of them and how they should treat others.

Task Instrumentality Task Instrumentality is how the classroom helps us carry out tasks. Everything in the class has a purpose and a function to help the day go by more efficiently. This is a picture of cubbies that the students have their folders in. This is where they put their homework and also where the teacher signs off their papers on how the behaved for the day.

Pleasure Since the students spend so much time in the classroom it’s a good idea to make it comfortable and appealing to them. Its good to use warm colors, have different textures, and cozy corners for them to enjoy. This is a picture of the computer station. The teacher has a lot of bright colors so it is can appeal to the students. Its not just a dark and dull corner. Instead it is bright and lively.

Growth Growth promotes the development of the students. It helps their cognitive development and their academic achievements. This is a picture of a literacy station in my classroom. This station allows the teacher to either work with a student one on one or with a group of students. Some of the things that they do here is doing group reading activities.
