Presentation transcript:

The Big Final Shakespeare Project You have your Choice of Four…

Four Choices… Rewrite / translate one Act into present-day English (extra points for modernization) Perform (live or video) one complete scene Perform (live or video) a song that tells the story Build a diorama of a scene.

Choice #1 – Rewrite an Act Up to 2 people can work together on this. You will completely rewrite any act from the play. You will accurately translate the Elizabethan English to present-day Postmodern English. You will read it to the class You can gain extra points for modernizing the storyline as well, from ancient Verona to some place in the United States, making the feud something more modern as well.

Choice #2 – Perform a Scene Up to 3 people can work together on this. You will perform a scene from the play, either adhering to the original script, or modernizing it. (You will probably want to modernize.) You will turn in the written script You can choose from: Romeo and Juliet Act1 Scene1, Act 1 Scene 5, Act 2 Scene 2, Act 3 Scene 1, Act 3 Scene5, Act 5 Scene3

Choice #3 – Perform a Song Up to 2 people can work on this. You will write a song that tells the whole story. You can choose any genre: rock, jazz, country, etc. If you don’t like music, you can use rap. You will perform this song live, or bring in a suitable recording You will tell the story completely and accurately You will turn in both the recording and a written copy of the lyrics

Choice #4 – Build a Diorama Up to 2 people can work on this. You will build a diorama depicting a dramatic scene from the play. (The death of Tybalt, the death of Paris, the tomb scene, etc.) Make it as accurate and visually appealing as possible. Don’t make it a last-minute, slap-together project. (It always shows…) You can also build a scale-model Globe Theatre.

FYI… This will be a MAJOR part of the 4th-quarter grade. DO NOT IGNORE THIS ASSIGNMENT. If you do, you are unlikely to pass. You will be graded on timeliness, completeness, accuracy, ability to hold the audience’s interest, and my interpretation of your level of effort.
