Chapter Notes Chapter 9 begins with a famine in Bethlehem Ironic because “Bethlehem” means “house of bread” in Hebrew Elimelek & Naomi w/ their two sons moved to Moab Moabites and Israelites didn’t always get along Mahlon and Kilion married Orpah and Ruth (both Maobite women) The father and sons died leaving the 3 women as widows. Who remained with Naomi?

Chapter Notes Who was Boaz? (pg. 123) Wealthy landowner in Bethlehem Relative of Elimelek (Naomi’s late husband) Married Ruth Boaz was the “guardian-redeemer” or “kinsman-redeemer.” What does that mean? A close relative marries the widow of a kinsman who has no son in order to produce one. Naomi’s family line could continue through Ruth and Boaz.

Chapter Notes What are the Upper Story connections? God welcomes non-Israelites into his family God welcomes all who love him & are baptized Boaz redeemed Naomi’s family line Jesus redeemed all mankind From this family, stemmed David’s greater Son, Jesus Christ.
