Who has the POWER to make changes in your life, your family and your community? You do!

What is Power of One? Power of One is a project (large or small) that helps YOU find and use your personal power to make a difference in your life, your family or your community.

Each Power of One project falls under one of the 5 categories: A Better You—improve on a personal trait Family Ties—get along better with family members Working on Working—explore and prepare for careers Take the Lead—develop leadership qualities Speak Out for FCCLA—tell others about the organization

Reduce amount of junk food I eat A Better You What is an area in your life that you want to strengthen? Identify a Concern Goal for Improvement Power of One Project I eat unhealthy foods Reduce amount of junk food I eat Create a meal plan that increases fruit & vegetable intake, keep track of progress through a food journal for 1 month, write a reflection on the challenges/successes of trying to change eating habits.

Family Ties How could you improve your family/home life? Identify a concern Goal for improvement Power of One Project I don’t spend time with my grandparents Increase amount of time spent with grandparents Research activities in our area that are affordable and accessible to the elderly, plan 5 different “dates” with my grandparents, write a reflection about our experiences and how this additional time spent is improving my relationships with them.

I don’t know what type of career I want Identify a possible career Working on Working Explore your options and learn the skills needed for career success. Identify a concern Goal for improvement Power of One Project I don’t know what type of career I want Identify a possible career Use WOIS to complete 3 different career-interest surveys, research a possible career field and determine the training/schooling necessary to achieve that career.

I am very quiet and don’t participate in class discussions Take the Lead Develop and use leadership skills in your home, school, community and beyond! Identify a Concern Goal for Improvement Power of One Project I am very quiet and don’t participate in class discussions Speak up more in class Make a plan to increase class participation over the next 4 weeks, create a daily chart to track progress. Talk to teachers about your goals and request feedback. Reflect on impact of class participation on grades/overall understanding of curriculum.

Speak Out for FCCLA Tell the world about FCCLA! Identify a Concern Goal for Improvement Power of One Project Students do not know when FCCLA meets Increase knowledge about FCCLA meetings Create a bulletin board that displays the next FCCLA meeting date/time. Update the bulletin board weekly to keep members informed. Poll members to identify if this additional signage has increased their knowledge of upcoming meetings.

How do I actually DO a Power of One? It’s EASY!  Identify a concern & make a goal Plan a project using the planning process & get approval Submit the completed project to Mrs. Walton by January 27th.

Your project(s) can add to your learning and become part of your student portfolio/resume. Your hard work will also be recognized at three levels—local (red members), state, and national (gold members)
