Student Grant Program for Research and Creative Activity Spring 2017 Round of Applications

General Program Information Any student can apply! - undergraduate-focused program - all disciplines welcome - 10% funding to graduate students Two application rounds per year (fall & spring) Student Research & Creative Activity (SRCA) Day - grant recipients must present at a SRCA Day - held annually in the spring semester - 2017 SRCA Day: Wednesday, April 12th

Eligibility Full- or part-time students - during the period of proposed work Currently enrolled students - and plan to enroll for the fall 2017 semester Graduating in May 2017 – Ineligible No more than 3 students per project

The Review/Award Process Applications reviewed by the Research Committee - applications must be complete to be reviewed - based on review criteria (see guidelines) Most applicants are asked for clarification - after the initial review - before funding is awarded - must respond within stated timeframe

Selected Program Features Separate application forms and guidelines 1) Research projects 2) Creative Activity projects Fellowships: $300 per project (not per student, if multiple) can get an award even without needing materials, supplies, travel, etc. not to be included in the application budget paid after recommendation of faculty sponsor and presentation at a SRCA Day

What Makes a Strong Proposal? Well written in language directed to a general, educated audience Clearly articulated background/ inspiration to the work proposed Well documented Well constructed and justified budget Strong faculty sponsor support ALL INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOLLOWED!

What Makes a Weak Application? Use of discipline-specific jargon/overly technical language No references (research–required; creative activity–if applicable), or inappropriately formatted Insufficient budget justification and/or ineligible expenses requested Role of project participants not clearly defined Lack of strong faculty sponsor support Excessive grammatical and/or spelling errors; poorly written INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED!

Deadlines Fall 2016 Semester Monday, November 14 (5:00 p.m.) - Application deadline Tuesday, December 20 - Target date for final award notifications January 1, 2017 - Funding for awarded grants commences
