USA (United States of America) Filiakin Arseniy 7 “A”

Location USA is situated in North America. It is the third largest country in the world. It is washed by the Atlantic ocean in the east, by the Pacific ocean in the west and by the Arctic ocean in the north. The capital of the USA is Washington, D. C. There are 50 states in this country. The largest state is Alaska, the smallest state is the state of Rhode Island.

America’s flag and symbols There are 50 stars and 13 stripes on the US flag. Stars are American states. Stripes are first American colonies that won the War of Independence. The symbols of the USA are: sequoia, eagle (орёл), apple pie, Statue of Liberty, hotdog and hamburger, baseball and football. The name of the national anthem is "The Star-Spangled Banner“(“Знамя, усыпанное звёздами”).

How did America appear on the map? America was founded by European settlers who lived in 13 British colonies. In 1776 they declared independence from the UK and established (создали) there own state – a democratic republic with the President and the Constitution.

Americans The USA is a melting pot – a country of migrants. Its native population were Indians, but nowadays there are not so many of them left – they were killed by European colonizers. Many Americans are descendants (потомки) of Europeans and Africans. These races mixed, that’s why there are many people with half-blood, like mulattoes.
