The Anointed One Nature of Christ Merely man? Only God? Both, Jn. 1:1, 14 Leave the how to God Believe evidence

The Anointed One nature Deity Humanity We will look at the Lord’s Nature today, both His Deity and His Humanity: “Deity” from the Latin “deus” – God (related to Sanskrit “deva” – god, “devi” – goddess, and “divya” – transcendental, spiritual) Jesus was and is God, and we begin looking at the evidence by citing some passages where Christ is shown as eternal with the Father…

Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. 1Jo 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life — the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that ETERNAL life which was with the Father and was manifested to us Eternal…meaning He had no beginning and will have no end…

Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 Without beginning or end, Heb. 7:3 I AM, Jn. 8:51-59 Without beginning or end Heb 7:3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. ***The I AM Jn 8:51-59 Jesus answered, " I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges. Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death." Then the Jews said to Him, " Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ' If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death. ' Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?" Jesus answered, " If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God. Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, 'I do not know Him, ' I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad." Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, " Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM." Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus was eternal with the Father Jn. 17:5; 1 Jn. 1:1, 2 Without beginning or end, Heb. 7:3 I AM, Jn. 8:51-59 Alive in wilderness, 1 Cor. 10:1-4 Alive in the wilderness 1Co 10:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

Jesus was co-Creator with God Col. 1:13-18 The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus was co-Creator with God Col. 1:13-18 Col 1:13-18 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Jesus was co-Creator with God Col. 1:13-18 The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus was co-Creator with God Col. 1:13-18 “Let us,” Gen. 1:26, 27; Heb. 1:2 His world, Jn. 1:10, 11; Col. 1:16 “Let Us” Gen 1:26-27 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; ***His world Jn 1:10-11 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. Col 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus is equal with God Mt. 1:23; Phil. 2:5, 6 Express image, Heb. 1:2, 3; Jn. 17:7-9 ***Equal with God Mat 1:22-23 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, " God with us.“ Phi 2:5-6 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, ***Express Image Heb 1:2-3 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Jn 17:7-9 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. " I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.

The Anointed One nature Deity Jesus is equal with God Mt. 1:23; Phil. 2:5, 6 Express image, Heb. 1:2, 3; Jn. 17:7-9 Order in Godhead, Col. 2:9 Father: head, 1 Cor. 15:27, 28 Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, Jn. 16:7-9 Order in Godhead Col 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; ***Father: head 1Co 15:27-28 For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says " all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. ***Jesus sent HS Jn 16:7-9 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; But let’s look at some PROOFS that He is God…

The Anointed One nature Deity Proof of deity John’s testimony, Jn. 1:29-34 God’s testimony, Mt. 3:16, 17; 17:5 ***John’s testimony Jn 1:29-34 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, " Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ' After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me. ' I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water." And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ' Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. ' And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.“ ***God’s testimony Mat 3:16-17 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, " This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.“

The Anointed One nature Deity Proof of deity John’s testimony, Jn. 1:29-34 God’s testimony, Mt. 3:16, 17; 17:5 Jesus’ miracles, Jn. 3:2; 20:30, 31; Mk. 2 Jesus’ resurrection, Rom. 1:4 Jesus’ Miracles: Jn 3:2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, " Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.“ Jn 20:30-31 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. Mar 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, " Son, your sins are forgiven you.“ ***Jesus’ Resurrection: Rom 1:4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

Left heaven to dwell with men Phil. 2:5-8 The Anointed One nature Humanity Left heaven to dwell with men Phil. 2:5-8 Exalted: glory, honor, served Humbled: to serve, despised, rejected Lower than angels, Heb. 2:9, 10 Left heaven to dwell with men: Phi 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. *** ***Lower than angels: Heb 2:9-10 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Left heaven to dwell with men Phil. 2:5-8 The Anointed One nature Humanity Left heaven to dwell with men Phil. 2:5-8 Exalted: glory, honor, served Humbled: to serve, despised, rejected Lower than angels, Heb. 2:9, 10 Tired & thirsty, Jn. 4:6, 7 Hungry, Lk. 4:2 Needed rest, Mt. 8:23-25 ***Tired & Thirsty: Jn 4:6-7 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, " Give Me a drink.“ ***Hungry: Luk 4:2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. ***Needed rest: Mat 8:23-24 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.

Learned obedience in the flesh Heb. 5:7-9 The Anointed One nature Humanity Learned obedience in the flesh Heb. 5:7-9 Prayed for help, Lk. 22:42-44 Perfected as Savior Learned obedience in the flesh: Heb 5:7-9 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, ***Prayed for Help: Luk 22:41-44 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, " Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Sympathizes with our weaknesses Heb. 2:14-18 The Anointed One nature Humanity Sympathizes with our weaknesses Heb. 2:14-18 Tempted & tried Knows pressures of life, Lk. 9:58 Sympathizes with our weaknesses: Heb 2:14-18 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. ***Knows pressures of life: Luk 9:58 And Jesus said to him, " Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

Sympathizes with our weaknesses Heb. 2:14-18 The Anointed One nature Humanity Sympathizes with our weaknesses Heb. 2:14-18 Tempted & tried Knows pressures of life, Lk. 9:58 Knows pressure of peers, Mk. 7:1-8 Knows pressures of peers: Mar 7:1-8 Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches. Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, " Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?" He answered and said to them, " Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:' This people honors Me with their lips,But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. ' For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men — the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do."

7:1-8 Knows pressure of Satan, Mt. 4:1-11 Knows our limits, 1 Cor. 10:13 Seek His help, Heb. 4:14-16 Knows pressures of Satan: Mar 4.1-11 The Temptation ***Knows our limits: 1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. ***We can seek His help: Heb 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
