Site Selection Tool Development with ModelBuilder An Van Delm // 10-18-2006 // CE697V // Project3 10/18/2006

Analytical Process Problem: select available houses based on the criteria of the family Criteria: - characteristics of the house - close to certain commercial/social buildings - within a reasonable distance to work/school - fast access to certain roads Data: geodatabase with housing data (Amelie, Bert, An), commercial activities, social buildings, work/school buildings, roads (source: geodrive)

The Process: Offering Possibilities Housing characteristics → Select by Attributes Priority 1 Houses + Work/School Buildings → Select by Location (“within a distance of…”) (in Series) Priority 2 Houses + Commercial/Social buildings → Select by Location (“within a distance of…”) (in Series) Priority 3 Houses + Roads → Select different types of Roads → Buffer Roads separately → Intersect Buffers to define common area → Select by Location (houses contained by total buffer) Priority 4 Priority1 + Priority2 + Priority3 + Priority4 → Intersect → Optimal selection of houses 10/18/2006

House characteristics: Priority 1 Work/School: Priority 2 Commercial/Social: Priority 3 House characteristics: Priority 1 Distance to Roads: Priority 4 10/18/2006

Things to keep in mind… Large buffers take a lot of time and memory Network Analyst does not work on ITAP-computers Difficulties show up on ITAP machine making a Report (also in course ASM 591F) ArcGIS has all kinds of missing communication links 10/18/2006
