Day 66 – The cask of amontillado, fiction review

Objectives Understand and Identify elements of fiction in a story. Evaluate and justify a theme for a fiction story. Homework: Study for AP exams. Fiction Test on Friday

Warm Up Take out a sheet of paper and label it “Revenge Warm Up”. You must respond to the following prompt in your warm up expression: “Is revenge ever justified? Why or why not?” Your response must be 6-8 complete sentences.

I wanted to go over R&J but… I have been called away to proctor an AP test. This means that we will start tomorrow. Make sure you bring your books.

“The Cask of Amontillado” Pgs. 372-379 Take a study guide for the story. While you read the story, fill out the form. All questions must be completed. This is as close to a study guide as you will get for your test tomorrow. Make sure you note: Tone Theme Characterization Symbolism Irony Plot

Montresor Coat of Arms In the story, the character Montresor describes his family’s coat of arms. Given Montresor’s attitude and the theme of the story, what do these symbols represent: Golden Foot Snake Blue field in the background In your notes, write how this coat of arms tells the story of “The Cask of Amontillado”. You must write 6-8 sentences for your explanation.

Coat of Arms Project Take a piece of white paper and draw a shield. Draw 3 symbols that represent you and your life goals. At the bottom of the shield, write a family motto. This can be a sentence that describes you or your beliefs. On the back, List and label each of your symbols and their meaning. Make sure you write your name on the back.

For Tomorrow… You will have to know the fiction terms that we have covered this semester. These are on my website in their own document. Make sure you know the definitions to all of these words and how to find all parts of a text. Best of luck.

Appositives Quiz on Tuesday (I know you are so broken up about it). Take the worksheet and complete it on your own. Turn it in complete at the end of class. Your grade will be based on the number correct.

Take out your R&J books Start reading act I scene I. Remember to annotate for: Theme Symbolism Imagery Figurative Language Plot We will cover what you read today. Try to see if you can translate it.

Closure - 3,2,1 Write: 3 things you learned about irony today. 2 examples of appositive phrases. 1 question you have regarding the lecture.
