Oaxaca, Mexico By: Katelyn Nelson

Where is it? Oaxaca, Mexico is located at the southern part of Mexico. There is also a city there that is called Oaxaca.

Facts The president is Benito Jaurez. The governor of the state is Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. That is their state flag ---------------------

Time Line 1821: The Mexican War of Independence- When Mexico won independence from Spain. 1910: The Mexican Revolution- was a struggle between Francisco Madero and Porfirio Diaz (long time enemies).

People Oaxaca is a historic home of the Zapotec and the Mixtec people and has more speakers of indigenous languages than any other Mexican state. The population of Oaxaca is 3,506,821 million people.

Food Empanadas- a bread or pastry stuffed with fish or meat. Corn Tortillas- made from corn dough. (Tacos) Black Beans- Tamales- are meats, cheese, and vegetables wrapped around leaf wrapper.

Places Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption. Is also in the city Oaxaca. It is a big church that was once destroyed in a earthquake 3 times! (but they had to rebuild it 3 times too). Alameda de Leon plaza is in the city Oaxaca. It is like a garden area in the main square of the city.
