Waterways Management Permitted & Non-Permitted Marine Events Safety Zones Security Zones Harbor Safety Committees Overview

Evaluating Marine Event Applications Dose the Event Fall under CG Jurisdiction Will there likely be a high concentrating of vsls potentially impacting rec or commercial navigation) Unusual Hazards/Time of Day Will it impact a TSS or occur in a Narrow Channel Eval is point based: 0-15- Permit N/A 16-19 Potential Permit 20+ Permit

Safety Zones Designed to protect areas or objects outside of the zone. They protect spectators, vessels, and waterways and shore areas by controlling access to activities within the zone. Most safety zones limit access during response to an emergency and can be set for an indefinite period of time. CG Supports via: Station Resources BNM LNM Publication 33 CFR 165.20 – A safety zone is a water area, shore area, or water and shore area to which, for safety or environmental purposes, access is limited to authorized persons, vehicles, or vessels. It may be stationary and described by fixed limits or it may be described as a zone around a vessel in motion. --General explanations of what they are

Safety Zones Examples: Examples-feel free to add any that you want Fireworks Zone size determined by shell sizes High Speed Boats Races Swim Portions of Triathlons Oil Spills Examples-feel free to add any that you want All of Sector Buffalo’s Annual Fireworks Events Safety Zones can be found in 33CFR165.939
