MirandaMods - How To John Cuthell, MirandaNet Fellowship Christina Preston, MirandaNet Fellowship Leon Cych, MirandaNet Fellowship

What is a MirandaMod? It’s not quite an unconference Where the structure and format is decided by participants It’s not quite a TeachMeet Where the only theme is that of teaching and learning It’s not quite a seminar Where an expert leads the session

It is: informal; loosely structured: an unconference of like- minded educators a sharing of ideas about the use of technology to inspire others takes its name from MirandaNet and Gaelic for a 'gathering or assembly' an addition, rather than a competitor, to Teachmeet in the educational unconference world. Members of the MirandaMod community will be involved with Teachmeet events and vice versa.

How does it work? It combines Post-event a themed face-to-face meeting; a virtual meeting; an online collaborative mind map; a live video stream; Twitter and social media streams. Post-event an archive of the video streams, the virtual meeting, the mind map and chat documentation.

Supercharging Streamed Media MirandaMod sessions filmed for post-production to produce high quality film. includes discussions, embedded PowerPoint Slides synchronised with talking heads sessions filmed dynamically, incorporating live streams with both f2f and remote discussions through USTREAM. FlashMeeting Stream used to include all the virtual participants in the discussion for reflective workshop sessions that augment the face-to-face ones.

Using FlashMeeting Serial video conferencing Magnified dynamic social interactions

Building the Liminal Space

Participants in the Physical Space Chairperson, who orchestrates contributions from people in the space, those operating in the Online Space, FlashMeeting supervisor. The social greeter will have coordinated all those present. The technical crew -one camera operator and possibly one sound person a people director a video and sound mixer; a technician and a remote stream observer providing feedback. These will also be participants in the process. In fact, the majority of participants are involved in the technicalities, as well as contributing and learning.

Participants in the Online Space Connectivity management: this may fall to one person or, better, be distributed, with Tweets being sent out at appropriate opportunities in the discussion. Mind Map Manager. Remote stream observer providing feedback to the technical crew in the physical space. Then there will be participants in FlashMeeting. Many of these participants will also be on Twitter or on other social media.

Participant needs in the Online Space Important elements of the online space for participants: provision for asynchronous participants access to the website links to the wiki links to the video streams links to the mind map links to the chat documents links to the replay and transcript of the FlashMeeting session.
